The Rochester Public Market is a great place to shop for live greens for holiday decorating. My favorite vendor is Werner Farms & Greenhouses. They have a great selection of fresh twigs, red berries, wreaths, garland, and all sorts of evergreens. Like most vendors at the Public Market, their prices are also very good.
Although I usually use white pine, I chose cedar rope to decorate my staircase. I found it to be fuller and easier to work with and I am hoping that it lasts as long as the white pine. The ribbon and embellishment that I used to make the decorations for the garland was purchased at Michaels. I selected copper and gold to blend with the décor in my home.
The wreath for over my fireplace is made from magnolia leaves and although it was relatively expensive, it will last for a few years. I used copper ribbon and the same embellishments to coordinate with the staircase.
