While most of my Christmas decorations coordinate with the color schemes in each room, when it comes to the Christmas tree I skip the themed or designer style and opt for good old-fashioned ornaments. My family has been collecting a few ornaments each year since 1979. The collection includes first Christmas together, the birth of my son and daughter, a new home, school days, hobbies, pet photos and vacations just to name a few. Each one has a special meaning and as we decorate the tree together we recall those memories.
These ornaments are just a few of the ones we’ve collected over the years. My son made the test tube and star punched aluminum lid and the Christmas baby socks and “Stephanie” angel are my daughter’s mementos.
We buy an ornament from every place we visit and love to remember those family trips when we’re decorating the tree.
We also have collected ornaments over the years that have special meaning. I have a cowboy snowman from when we lived in Colorado, ornaments for the pets we’ve had and ornaments for my children as they were going up. Now I add ornaments for my grandchildren. I love listening to the grandkids squeal with delight when they help decorate the tree!
