On July 25th, I had the good fortune to celebrate my daughter’s marriage and was thrilled that she called on me to help with the décor!
Much like decorating for a client, the selections had to reflect my daughter’s style and wishes – simple, practical and green. And like with most decorating projects there was an inspiration piece – in this case it was the wedding gown. Stephanie’s dress featured subtle pink flower appliques. So pink became the accent color for the décor and flowers. The pale pink complemented the teal colored bridal gowns perfectly and teal became the main color for the décor.
The centerpieces were made from three different size wine glasses. The largest being a giant novelty glass that I purchased in a craft store. The overturned glasses were used as the candleholders. For safety and practical purposes, I chose battery-operated wax candles. The teal colored ribbon, which coordinated perfectly with the organza chair sashes and the rose-formed napkins, was made into three bows for the stems of each of the large glasses. Tripling the bow gave it the fullness it needed and made it a centerpiece that was pleasing from all angles. Each glass held a blush colored rose bud that sat on a small bed of moss. Glowing fairy lights twisted around twigs filled the large glass. The battery pack was disguised with moss. The centerpieces sat on a round beveled edge mirror that reflected the soft glow of the candles and lights. Keeping with the theme, the guest favors were miniature wine glasses filled with candy-coated almonds and embellished with teal ribbon.
Except for the roses, each part of these centerpieces were reusable. The bride and groom now have a set of both red and white wine glasses and I have a nice supply of candles, lights and mirrors for decorating and home staging!
