The fireplace is the best feature in this room and adds value to the home. However, the large TV over the mantel is what stands out most (not to mention the other 3 TVs to the left!). The height of the oversized TV also makes the ceiling look low.
The huge sectional sofa (see both before photos) made the spacious room crowded and and created an awkward traffic pattern. In addition to removing the TVs , we simplified things by removing the 6 faux plants and the curio cabinet that was filled with collectables. Using the smaller scale furniture, allowed for the addition of a coffee table.
Centering the table on the fireplace put further emphasis that it is the focal point of the room. We finished off the room by hanging two small canvas prints on what use to be a bare off white wall.
These simple changes make a good case for staging even the most modest of homes!
