Highland Park is best known as the home of Rochester’s famous Lilac Festival. The park has a history as colorful as its 500 varieties of flowering shrubs. The Lilac Festival, held in May each year, draws visitors from all over the world to see Highland Park’s collection of lilacs in full bloom. – City of Rochester/Highland Park
The latest attraction at the park is the newly restored Pansy Bed. Thanks to Rochester Garden Club, the pansy bed with its 10,000 plants, has been exquisitely renewed for all to enjoy. In honor of its 100th Anniversary, the garden club provided the necessary money to revamp the iconic landmark that was crumbling and in disrepair. – Rochester Garden Club
In addition to more than 1,200 lilac shrubs of 500 varieties, the park has a Japanese maple collection, 35 varieties of magnolia, a barberry collection, a rock garden with dwarf evergreens, 700 varieties of rhododendron, azalea, mountain laurel, and andromeda, horse chestnuts, spring bulbs and wildflowers, and a number of exotic trees. – City of Rochester/Highland Park
Kristin, our Media Manager does a great of keeping my head shot current with at least one photo shoot a year and Highland Park was the perfect setting. Work was literally a walk in the park for both of us that day. There was lots of inspiration everywhere. While Kristin was looking for just the right lighting and angles, I was thinking of color and décor.
The space, color, and texture of this tree (above) would make a spectacular table base! Fire hydrant yellow is a great accent color, don’t you think?
